Last Friday night felt kinda like a timeline where everyone got famous except for Matt.
There was a Q&A at playhouse theatre in Hamilton following the first ever 35mm screening of the movie. Jay was there, Jared was there and even Luca was there.
No Matt tho.
I won’t give any spoilers. And I was originally going to give spoilers but after a conversation I had over the weekend I’ve decided against it.
I hate spoilers anyways. The internet is a monster for spoiling movies. Specifically twitter which I’m not on anymore. Not because I’m boycotting it or anything but I can’t get signed back into my account.
Anyways. The theatre was packed. Sold out. And as we were waiting in the concession line someone walked up to talk to their boyfriend behind us and said “there’s not any sets of 2 seats together so we’re going to have to sit apart” To which I immediately left the line to go find to seats together. Which I did. 3rd row from the front which is usually something I’d hate. But during a Q&A night it’s not so bad
The movie was phenomenal. Honesty I can’t really wrap my mind around how they were able to blend the footage from the past with the footage from 2008. Even after the Q&A. It was beyond me.
On top of that this is my pitch as to why you need to see the movie; this movie is a pat on the back to the delusions of what you think you can achieve. Matt & Jay just want to perform at the Rivoli. But they make you believe anything is possible.
Honesty this movie gave me a whole new appreciation for the Rivoli. I think across the board this movie gives you an appreciation for Toronto. The CN Tower, the “skydome”, the street cars, the iconic CTV car building. I’ve never seen it so highlighted in a movie.
And when it came to the Q&A, Jay & Jared gave great insight into how they got away with certain scenes.
How the Arkells lended 2 minutes of stage time as a favour to Jared during their Budweiser stadium show. How when they were looking through old footage they found the 2008 shot of Jay saying “hey that guy looks like me” and the info that caught my attention was how they got all of the “Bridle path” new clip scene, which coincided with the incident that happened at Drake’s house. Jay joked that Kendrick got him.
But my interest came from a scene that involved the Borns Ruffians. I was set to interview them the day after the screening.
During the Q&A I asked “How did you decide which Born Ruffian would be ******”
